Coding art is about writing visual expressions

Code is the text that makes up computer programms whereas a 'fragment of code' producing a value is called an expression.

Programmers, like writers, combine different expressions to describe complex processes. Paradoxically, when programming computers to create and display art, the visual imagery first conceived in the artist's mind has to be coded first in order to visualize the end result later.

Imagine a traditional artist creating her/his painting by first writing down on paper a set of intructions on how to go about the painting she/he conceived through a process of visual thinking, and that set of written instructions being part of the painting itself when the artwork is finished.

Taking the above as a valid line of thought, it is fair to consider that programming languages, the internet, browsers, computers and computer screens are the raw materials for digital technologists to create and display art in the internet age.

In my particular case, I am currenly learning and using JavaScript, HTML and CSS as programming languages to create digital art embedded in webpages that can be appreciated through the internet and displayed in browser's windows (best shown in Google Chrome) on computer screens. My art is created and lives in the digital.

Here is a list of artworks I've created in JavaScript. They are best displayed when using Google Chrome browser. Click on titles to visualize.

All artworks were created as animated forms to convey a sense of perpetual motion, using code to 'liberate' the static form of traditional art.
