Co-founded MateAmargo Tango: an Argentine Tango community in Highland Park, NJ

MateAmargo Tango was an initiative that I created with my wife Jusleine Daniel (Argentina), to promote and cultivate the culture of Argentine Tango in communities that surround Rutgers University, such as Highland Park and New Brunswick.

We were dedicated to teach the art of dancing Argentine Tango and offered classes on a weekly basis. Classes took place at White Lotus Studio (431 Raritan Ave, Highland Park) every Thursday night from 7pm to 11pm. The person in charge of teaching at the time was Damian Lobato. He wa a renowned Tango dancer and performer with 20 years of experience who recently came to the US from Argentina to exclusively teach Argentine Tango. Jusleine will helped and assisted Damian during the classes while I took care of promoting the graduate student community at Rutgers to join us.

In addition to Thursday’s classes, MateAmargo Tango organized a

monthly social event known as Milonga, during the fourth Friday of each month. At the Milongas, our work focused on bringing live music and professional Tango dancers to offer a live performance so our guests could have a real taste of “Rio de la Plata” culture.

In order to enhance the teaching experience, we offered intensive

weekend workshops that tackled a specific topic such as the musicality and structure of Tango dance.

We exclusively committed to offer a unique insight into our culture from an artistic perspective.
